Quebec Government to Block Unauthorized Gambling Websites

online-gambling-graphic-75x75Government authorities in Quebec announced that under the amendments of the Quebec Consumer Protection Act, they are going to block unauthorized online gambling sites. “Unauthorized” are the sites that do not have a license from Loto Quebec. The move would allow Espacejeux, the state’s gambling monopoly, to generate millions in revenues on a yearly basis. However, critics say that the move is a form of censorship of the Internet and is bad for the industry. The chairman of the Canadian chapter of the Internet Society, Timothy Denton, said that blocking access to legally available gambling websites is very bad especially because this is done to enhance one’s gambling monopoly.
