Brexit Most Popular Non-Sporting Betting Event for Punters

igt-logoBritain voted to leave Europe and the result was pretty shocking, especially knowing that all bookmakers put Remain in the lead. Brexit was also the most popular non-sporting betting even in the UK, more popular than the Royal baby and 2015 General Elections. A record has been set as the punters wagered a total of £120 million on Brexit. It has been claimed that William Hill alone took bets in the amount of £3 million, yet had a net loss of £400,000 at the end of the week. Apparently more than two thirds of the bets were placed on ‘Leave’. Ladbrokes, on the other hand, made a profit as the people who backed ‘Remain’ wagered more money.
